Supporting Mitup financially

Your contribution keeps the bot online. It pays for the servers, the database, the domain, and the occasional pizza for whoever's debugging migrations at 1am.

Become a Host on Patreon

Mitup is funded by monthly members on Patreon. We call them Hosts. Every Host gets a badge next to their name in Mitup and a seat in the members-only Telegram group, and the two bigger tiers raise the limits on your account.

Pledging alone doesn't switch your perks on

Patreon doesn't tell the bot who you are. After you join, link your Patreon account through ♥ Collaborate in the bot. Your badge and limits only turn on once the two accounts are linked. How the perks turn on walks through it.

Brewer
€3/ month
Casual catch-ups and coffee dates
Commissioner
€10/ month
The whole neighborhood league

What each tier includes

Brewer (€3/mo)

  • A Brewer badge next to your name in Mitup
  • The members-only Telegram group
  • The warm fuzzies, monthly

The Brewer tier keeps the same limits as a free account. It's for backing the bot, not for unlocking it.

Gamemaster (€5/mo): everything in Brewer, with a Gamemaster badge and room to run a regular series:

  • Up to 50 active meetings at once, instead of 5
  • Schedule up to a year ahead, instead of 90 days
  • No participant cap on your meetings, instead of 20

Commissioner (€10/mo): everything in Gamemaster, with a Commissioner badge and the limits gone entirely:

  • Unlimited active meetings, scheduled as far ahead as you like
  • Propose and vote on new features

Patreon also lets you pledge a custom amount. You get the highest tier your pledge reaches.

How the perks turn on

  1. Pick a tier on the Mitup Patreon page.
  2. Open @mitupbot and tap ♥ Collaborate in the main menu.
  3. Tap the button to link your Patreon account. Patreon asks you to confirm, then sends you back.
  4. That's the whole setup. Your badge and limits follow your Patreon membership automatically: pledge and they turn on, and it works in either order, so you can link first and become a member later.

You can unlink your Patreon account from the same screen whenever you want. Unlinking removes the connection right away and your account goes back to the free limits.

Joining the Hosts-only group

The group is a private Telegram supergroup for Hosts. Open ♥ Collaborate and tap the button to join. Your join request is approved on the spot if the bot sees you as an active Host, and declined otherwise, so there's no waiting on a moderator.

Your spot follows your Host status. If your support ends, the bot removes you from the group. Become a Host again and you can rejoin from the same screen.

Where your money goes

Everything goes into running the bot. Nobody draws a salary. The bill is mostly:

  • The server the bot runs on
  • The managed Postgres database that holds every meeting and RSVP
  • Monitoring and alerting, so someone finds out before you do when the bot misbehaves
  • The mitup.social domain and this site

Not into giving money?

That's fine. There are other ways to help that matter just as much:

  • Translate Mitup into your language on Crowdin
  • Contribute code via GitLab
  • Report bugs with a screen recording. Those get fixed fastest.
  • Spread the word: mention Mitup in your group chats
